Blackbird. by Vildensky Blackbird. by Vildensky
A seven-page comic created in reaction to two events, the one being the mass shooting on a political summer camp for youth in Norway the 22nd of July, as well as the separate experience of finding a hurt and dying bird.

"Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night"

Wishful thinking, maybe?

EDIT: A DD? Well, that was overwhelming and very much appreciated. Thanks a lot for the support, folks. If you are interested in seeing more of my art than here on dA, take a look at my tumblr Vildensky!

This to me is like one of those children's books that when one is a child,
they don't look at the bad but more to the good ending, and when they
brush up on it as an adult, they see and understand the deeper meanings
that they didn't see originally, mostly because they were too young
at the time to comprehend it.

The simplistic style and lack of colour, along with the events taking place,
made a very powerful impression on me. :)

It's very meaningful and nicely illustrated :) may I ask what you used for making this? (what kind of paper, etc.) thanks! :D

Thank you for the nice comment, it's much appreciated :aww:

The work was originally drawn on seven sheets of A3-sized paper from Daler-Rowney, 160 gram. After layout-sketches and the like, a HB pencil (probably a mechanical one) was used for all the lines. When satisfied, the lines were inked using both a nib pen dipped in ink and normal technical pens of different sizes, depending on the level of detail required. I started filling in all the black spaces with a brush dipped in ink, but it turned out to be a troublesome technique so it was mostly done with big copic markers instead. Then, I dipped a brush in white ink and shook it over the drawing to make the "starry" effect. Finally, I used correction fluid where mistakes had been made, scanned the drawings and edited the contrast slightly in Photoshop to "clean up" the work.

Hope this was helpful!
